A Quick Fall Cleaning Checklist

Everyone thinks of spring cleaning but fall is the perfect time to clean! It’s good to deep clean every season anyway. With Thanksgiving coming up, it’s best to clean early so you don’t have to worry about it when you are trying to cook and entertain out of town guests. I’ve made a quick checklist of everything I plan on cleaning this fall both at home and at my boyfriend’s apartment this fall.

  • Dust ceiling fans, light fixtures, furniture, base boards, and any other surfaces that collect dust. Also run the duster on top of the fridge and door frames.
  • Take warm bleach water and a washcloth and wipe all dirt off the walls and baseboard.
  • Vacuum and sweep the floors, blinds, curtains, and underneath the couch cushions.
  • Go through makeup and toiletries in the bathroom and get rid of empty or old products.
  • Put summer clothes away in plastic bins and pull out cold weather clothes. Try everything on to see if they still fit and make a list of what you need. This can wait if you live in an area that doesn’t get cold until the middle of October/early November, like here in Southeast Virginia.
  • Go through your fridge and pantry and clean out expired foods and old leftovers. If you have any non-perishable food that you don’t want, consider donating to your local food pantry or church.
  • Mop floors and scrub the grout on tile floors. I like to use old toothbrushes for that.
  • Clean toilet and tub. Also, throw all shower curtains and bath maths in the wash.
  • Sweep off and knock down cobwebs/dead wasp nests off of entryways, decks, porches, patios, and balconies.
  • Buy some seasonal smell goods such as candles, wax warmers, and scented oils. I like Pumpkin Dream and Deep Golden Spell by Glade.
  • If you have pets, scrub their bowls and litter boxes out. Consider replacing any old ratty beds and pet area mats.

This is my definitive list of what I am going to clean this fall. Is there anything you would add to the list? How would your cleaning list be different from mine depending on where you live and what your lifestyle is like? I’d love to hear from y’all!

Cats!

win_20160924_094643

Meet Tigerlily! She’s my friend’s cat that we are going to be watching while she is on military deployment. She’s about six months old and is the funniest cat you will ever meet. We are also planning on adopting a flame point Siamese once his hold is up at the pound. I’ll post pictures when we bring him home. S’s cousin also has some tuxedo kittens and we are thinking of adopting one since we can have up to three cats at the apartment. I’m so excited because not only do I have my six cats at my parent’s house, I’m going to have three more at my boyfriends! I love cats and they bring me such peace and joy.

Rainy Day Activities

I absolutely love rain. I’m always most relaxed when I can hear the rain drumming on the roof. I even love driving in the rain. Here in southeast Virginia, it’s been raining for about five days straight. My dad has a rain gauge (he’s a weather watcher for the local weather research station) and he said we’ve already gotten ten inches of rain this week! There has been some flooding in low spots but otherwise, I’ve been having fun. Today, I am  going to share what I like to do on rainy days.

  • If it’s warm enough (like right now it’s in the 80s), I love to go outside and stomp around in the puddles. I usually go barefoot but I do have a multicolored polka dot umbrella and matching boots (from my college days).
  • I love visiting the library, especially during the winter. My local library was just built about five years ago and it’s amazing. I do love the old library that was converted from a one room school house but the new library is pretty awesome. It has a huge children’s room and an adult room. There is a foyer with comfy couches and cafe style tables. The librarians are nice and are always willing to suggest good books.
  • On rainy days, I like to go to the gym. I normally like to go running at the local state park but some days, it’s too muddy. I go to the YMCA and like to run on the treadmills right in front of these floor to ceiling windows. There is a cornfield across the street and sometimes I’ll see deer and other wildlife while I’m working out.
  • Another thing I like to do is have friends over for tea. I’ll make fruit tarts and scones and then brew a pot of one of my favorite teas from the English Tea Store. Some of my friends knit so we’ll spend several hours knitting and discussing ideas.

What do you like to do on rainy days?

The Autumn Tag 2016

Hello to my lovely followers! Today, I am sharing tag that is about Autumn! As y’all have probably figured out by now, Autumn is my favorite season. I got these questions from the wonderful blog, Makeup Savvy! Feel free to go on over to her blog and use the questions. You can also post a link below if you do the tag.

1. What signifies the start of Autumn for you? The day after Labor Day. Even though I am out of school, I always started school the day after Labor Day. That meant summer over and it was time to crack down on school and pull out my autumn clothes.

2. What is your favourite Fall scent? I love all fall scents but right now, I am wearing an apple scent. I also have some pumpkin spice candles.

3. What is your favourite Autumn colour? I love cranberry colors. Also maroon and dark reds.

4. What is your favourite Fall drink? Apple cider! Apples are my favorite fruit and since apples are in season during the fall, I drink anything apple.

5. What TV show, new or old, are you looking forward to this Fall? I honestly haven’t really thought about it. I am looking forward to A Series of Unfortunate Events coming to Netflix though.

6. What is your favourite Fall fashion trend? I love scarves. I probably have about twenty scarves hanging on my bedroom wall. They are so comfy and stylish!

7. What is your favourite frugal Autumn activity? My church hosts a harvest festival every October. If you volunteer  and help run the festival, you get free breakfast and entry into the festival that day. You also get a chance to walk around and experience everything. It’s a lot of fun! This year will be my seventh year volunteering there!

8. What is your favourite makeup look come autumnal weather? It’s just my everyday makeup look. I like to wear neutrals from my Maybelline Blushed Nudes pallet and then a tinted lip balm from Burt’s Bees. I’m pretty low maintenance and only do the fancy makeup looks for special occasions. Some days, I don’t even wear makeup!

Like I said above, I’d love to hear your answers. Feel free to link your post below and also head on over to Makeup Savvy and share with her!

Remembering September 11, 2001

american-flag-1208660

Every year around this time of year, my heart feels heavy. I was in the third grade when this terrible attack took place. At first, I didn’t know what was going on. My school principal had placed our school on lock down and she sounded scared on the intercom so I knew something bad had happened. When I got home from school, my mom was in tears. She explained to me that my older cousin had an internship at a law office in one of the towers and that she couldn’t get a hold of my family in New York. I remember being scared and hearing fighter jets fly over the area all afternoon (we live in a large military area). Finally, my mom got a hold of my aunt and found out that my cousin had called out sick that day from work. It saved her life. A month later, we drove to New York for our annual family visit. In addition to the usual apple picking and visiting local landmarks, mom took us to pay our respects. I remember a chain link fence had been built. On the fence, were pictures of missing people. I remember the metal cross that sat in the center of the ground zero. Most of the rubble had been cleaned up by then. I remember my aunt and cousin having walk away and finding my aunt sobbing on a bench a few blocks away. To this day, I still look for the twin towers as we fly into the city. I still feel a  tinge of sadness when I don’t see them towering over the skyline. I also often think about the Pentagon (living only a few hours from it) and the heroic efforts of the passengers on Flight 93. While I move on with my life, I still stop to remember. I pray for everyone- the families of the victims, the victims, the mean men who did this, and the soldiers who went to fight after this. It’s hard to believe that it’s been fifteen years since that day. It seems like it was just yesterday. The years flew by. Do you remember September 11,2001?
