Four Months in Yellowstone

I’ve always loved being outdoors and national parks. They bring me such peace and happiness. When I went on vacation to Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park when I was sixteen, I swore I’d return. I ended up getting a job at Yellowstone! In 2013, I spent a wonderful summer working and hiking in Yellowstone. It was amazing and three years later, I still think daily about my adventures and friends I made. In honor of the National Park Service’s 100th birthday, I am sharing some pictures of my time in Yellowstone.

Inspiration Board 20: Watermelon Party

I’ve seen a lot of blogs posting about how it’s starting to feel like fall. Well, not here! Southeastern Virginia is still very hot and probably will be for another month or two. Our seasons always come a little later than the rest off the state and the north. Since it’s still hot, I’ve decided to share an inspiration board on one of my favorite summer treats-watermelon! Enjoy!

How to Survive Your First Week of College

Good evening to my lovely readers! As promised, here is the first post on my school survival series. Today, I am sharing my tips on surviving your first week of college.

Plan Ahead

Make a list of things you need to do before you leave and make a list of things to bring. Having a plan for move-in day will make things go so much smoother.

Don’t pack your entire bedroom

Trust me when I say this. I packed way too much my freshman year. Unless you live in another country, you can leave your off season stuff at home and just switch it out when you go home for fall break. You will thank yourself and your roommates will thank you for not taking up all the storage space.

Participate in Dorm Activities

The get the know you games and first week cookouts may seem cheesy but it’s a great way to make new friends and feel more comfortable in your new school.

Print our your syllabus and start reading

Most of my professors have expected the first chapter of the textbook the be read before the first class. Plus it’s good to know what topics you are going to study and when things are do. You don’t want to be cramming last minute when you want to hang out with your new friends!

Get enough sleep

Please get enough rest each night, especially the first week. You’ll be doing a lot of things during the day and you’ll be exhausted. Don’t stay up all night just to stay up all night!

What are you tips for incoming college freshmen?

Inspiration Board 19: Mid Century Modern

Good morning! Today I bring you some home inspiration from the atomic era! I love pieces like these and I plan on decorating my future home with pieces from the 1950s post war atomic age. What is your favorite design era?

A Day on the Chowan River

Saturday was a lovely day! My boyfriend’s cousin had is twenty first birthday (which is a huge deal since he spent four months in a coma and we didn’t know if he would make it) and decided he wanted to spend the day surrounded by friends and family at his grandfather’s river cottage. The cottage is about an hour and a half from where I live in northern North Carolina. It’s set back in the woods on the beautiful Chowan River. I enjoyed spending the day cooking out, swimming, rafting, and playing fetch with their sweet Black Lab, Charlie. It was nice to spend the day relaxing in a remote area and not having to worry about anything.

Do you have a place you like to go to relax and have a day of fun?

Hello to all my lovely readers! I can’t believe it’s already August! August is usually the month schools start back or prepare for the school year. I am taking a college class this fall and it starts next week! The schools in my town do not start until after labor day but I thought I would do a series on back to school. Some days, I will feature advice for high school students. Other days, I will feature advice for college students. I am excited about this series. It’s going to be a lot of fun to write! Stay tuned for my thoughts on surviving high school and college!
