Returning to College!

IMG_0279

Hello to my lovely readers! I have a confession to make. I took one semester off of college and then it turned into four years off. I took some time off because of a number of reasons including my dream school is too expensive. I did enjoy one amazing year on campus and I don’t regret it! I still talk to my roommates from freshman year! That being said, I have a big announcement!

I am returning to school! I finally am making it happen. I’m actually going to start out at my local community college with two online classes to get my feet wet and then I plan on transferring to the online school of the University that I originally started out at. This time, I am not stopping until I get my degree. There going to be no more semesters off. It’s degree or bust! School doesn’t start for another month and a couple of weeks but I’m starting to prepare. I’ve gotten some school supplies together and I’m going to pay tuition this week. I’m so excited! I wish August 21st would hurry up and get here.

Are any of y’all in college?

Summer Safety For Your Dog

19436397_1102648876506207_1504849217875607552_n

Hello! Today I wanted to share with you a few tips to keep your dogs safe during the summer. It was inspired by an incident that happened today when I went to my local bank. I noticed a dog locked in a hot car and when I came out of the bank later, the dog was still locked up! I called the police and they rescued the dog before it was too late. Luckily, the dog had no permanent damage but it still angered me that somebody could be so heartless and irresponsible. That being said, here are some basic summer safety tips for your dog!

  • First, you should regularly provide flea, tick, and worm preventatives for your dog. Summer, especially here in coastal Virginia, means all sorts of bugs! It’s important to provide monthly flea and tick treatment for your dogs. Also, make sure you are giving them a heartworm preventative. I’ve fostered several dogs that had heartworms and it is so sad to see them suffer!
  • Second, you should be careful about the temperature the pavement or sidewalk. Try walking in the grass, if you can and make sure you check your dog’s paws after walking! Burns from a hot sidewalk can be very painful on the pads of a dog’s paw.
  • If you are taking your dog out and about, bring water! There are so many collapsible water bowls that make bringing water for your dog easy! Don’t let them drink out of puddles because dogs can get nasty diseases like Giardia. If you are at a park with a communal water bowl for dogs, be careful. Not everyone deworms or properly cares for their dog and they might be spreading nasty diseases around.
  • Please, do not shave your dog! Their fur actually keeps their skin from heating up. Shaving your dog for the summer could actually cause harm! If you are thinking about getting a dog, try to adopt a breed that does well in the climate you live in. For example, Huskies are snow dogs so a southern summer may not be comfortable for them!
  • Finally, please do not lock your dogs in a hot area with no way of keeping cool. That means cars, sheds, and garages. If you are leaving your dog in a garage for the day, provide some sort of way of cooling down such as fans and fresh water. If you can’t bring your dogs into the stores you are going to, leave them home! It only takes a few minutes for a car to heat up on a hot summer day. It may be 90 degrees outside but it will be several degrees hotter in a car. Cracking the windows won’t help if there is no air flow!

These are my tips for keeping your dog safe in the summer. I am not a professional but these are ways I keep my three dogs safe. Do you have any tips for keeping a dog healthy and happy in the summer heat?

Summer Inspiration: Beach Party

Hello! Today, I am sharing with you some cute beach themed items! I grew up about thirty minutes from Virginia Beach and an hour and a half from the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Of course, I spent my summers at VA Beach but my dad’s old roommates lived in the OBX so we spent plenty of weekends there too! I love the beach! It’s so much fun just to relax in the sun and jump in the waves. Do you like going to the beach? Have you ever been to VA Beach?

Summer Goals Using If…Then Statements

1488882_194950167362050_323860764_n

Hello to my lovely readers! I have been on a self-improvement kick lately. I recently realized that I’ve been pretty negative and I’ve been letting myself go. I gained forty pounds in the last two years, my panic attacks returned, and I’ve been very down on myself. I decided that it’s time for a change. Nothing is going to get better unless I do something about it. I decided to share with y’all what I am doing about it.

I stumbled across this article by The Cusp about using If…Then statements to set your goals. The basic concept is, if you actually make a plan of what you are going to do, it is easier to follow those goals. Just saying you have a goal isn’t really going to help. You need a plan of action, not just a wish to do something. I thought it was a great idea so I wrote down some if..then statement goals in my notebook to work on this summer.

  1. If I make a shopping list, then I will purchase healthier items at the grocery store.
  2. If I cook healthy meals at home, then I will lose weight and save money.
  3. If I carry my water bottle with me at all times, then I will not be tempted to buy soda and other sugary drinks.
  4. If I take pictures of my food and share them with my new nutrition coach on the Rise App*, then I will be more aware of my food choices.

These are my main goals for the summer! Do you have any goals? What do you think about using if…then statements to set goals? Feel free to share with me below. I would love to hear from y’all!

I will revisit this post in September to update y’all on what has happened.

Life Update

Hello! I just wanted to update y’all on what is going on in my life and my plans for the summer. A lot of exciting things are ahead!

  • House Hunting- S and I have been house hunting for the last four months and we finally found a house! It’s right in the location we wanted the house and it’s in a nice neighborhood off of a back road. It’s about a five-minute drive from town so everything is convenient but it’s set back enough that things are quiet and private. S’s lease is up the first week of August so hopefully, we can have everything settled pretty quickly.
  • Ducklings– My mom’s ducks are booming this year! Right now she is up to 28 ducklings. That does not include the 18 adult ducks she already has. It’s been a lot of fun helping her care for the ducks even if they are a bit messy.
  • Packing- S and I’ve started packing up and cleaning the apartment so it won’t be so much to do at once when moving days comes around. Luckily, it’s just a year’s worth of stuff in this apartment. He had gotten rid of and organized a lot of stuff before he moved in last year.
